84 Koshi Yatra at Aypdhya

Jihad Virus Spreads in Tamil Nadu

Salem-News.com
It may be recalled that during the spate of terror killings in the mid-1993s in Tamil Nadu, the presence of Hindu organisations such as Hindu Munnani, RSS, and others, safeguarded the Hindu community through proactive measures.
(SALEM, India) - In the wake of the gruesome murder of auditor Ramesh, which shook the nation and brought to light the hitherto unknown saga of jihadi targeting of Hindu leaders and functionaries of Hindu organisations in Tamil Nadu, a group of youthful volunteers functioning under the banner of the Vedic Science Research Center (VSRC) undertook an investigation of jihadi murders in the State, with special focus on the period from April 2006- July 2013.
The group aimed to ascertain the factors behind the growing jihadi activities in the State, and the enabling conditions facilitating the same. They plan to submit their interim report to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani when he visits Salem district on August 1. For reasons of safety, the names of the volunteers are being kept confidential. A more exhaustive report is expected in a few weeks.
The preliminary findings suggest that Islamic secessionism, like Dravidian separatism, was nurtured by the British through tacit support to the Muslim League in the politics of Tamil Nadu. Every Muslim pocket in the Madras Presidency backed Islamic secessionism, and in the Assembly Election of 1946, the Muslim League won all 28 seats reserved for Muslims under the slogan “Separate Pakistan”. The Congress was drubbed in all the separate constituencies. The partition forced a change of strategy, and in Karachi (December 13-14, 1947), the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) was anointed by MA Jinnah with Mohammed Ismail, Quaid-e-Millat, as its first president. He became a Member of the Indian Constituent Assembly. In the aftermath of independence and partition, no political party was allowed to operate under the name of a religion. But in the Kerala elections, the Indian National Congress fell short by two seats, and to gain to support of two candidates backed by the IUML, accepted its demand to be recognised as a Muslim political party! The League cosied up to the Congress in Tamil Nadu, and voiced its old demands for a separate Sharia law, dual voting rights, and so on. When Tamil separatism reared its head in the late 1950s, the IUML joined hands with it, and used the friendship of the Congress, the Dravidian parties, and the communists to whitewash its image.
Violence against Hindus began from the 1980s onwards, and has to date not been condemned by any mainline political party or social organisation. The first set of terror incidents culminated in the Coimbatore serial bomb blasts of February 14, 1998, in which 58 persons died and over 200 were injured. It resulted in a powerful Hindu backlash and caused revulsion across the spectrum, and led to a brief lull in Islamic terror activity. The rise of the BJP at the Centre from 1998 to 2004 saw a decline in terror activities, but the advent of the Congress-led UPA reversed this trend with massive appeasement, including the repeal of anti-terrorism ordinance POTA. The return of the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu in 2006 was a boon for Muslim outfits in the State, as witnessed by the rise of terror incidents:

May 2006: Half a dozen cadres of Al Umma released from Palayamkottai prison within days of DMK Government assuming charge.
July 22, 2006: Five Manitha Neethi Pasarai (MNP) cadres arrested in Coimbatore on charges of plotting serial bomb blasts similar to 1998 blasts; all acquitted on February 9, 2008 on grounds of being arrested on false charges!
July 26, 2006: Indian Express carried an analytical report by Jaya Menon on MNP activities in the name of ‘Arivagam’ to brainwash new converts, especially Scheduled Castes, to train and recruit them in Jihadi squads. (The MNP is reportedly active in Theni and Coimbatore districts, close to Kerala borders, so they can connect with the Kerala-based NDF, for plotting terror activities. After this, there was no mention of MNP in media circles, though their activities continued clandestinely.)November 22, 2006: Leaders of Karnataka for Dignity (KFD), Manitha Neethi Pasarai (MNP) and National Development Front (NDF) met at Calicut and decided to form the Popular Front of India (PFI) to coordinate their work. Its leaders include KM Shareef, KFD president, Gulam Muhammed, MNP leader, and Abdur Rahman Baqari of NDF (all erstwhile SIMI activists); they decided to confine their activities to South India.
December 2006: TMMK attempts to construct a mosque close to Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple in Thenkasi town, Thirunelveli district. Hindu Munnani activists led by Kumar Pandian thwart the move.
December 17, 2006: Kumar Pandian murdered.February 17, 2007: The New Indian Express, Chennai, reports the formation of the ‘Popular Front of India’ (PFI) on February 16, 2007, as a coordinated effort of Karnataka For Dignity (KFD), Karnataka; Manitha Neethi Pasarai (MNP), Tamil Nadu; and National Development Front (NDF), Kerala. Its supposed objective was, ‘to coordinate & strengthen grassroot level developmental activities throughout the country,’ followed by an ‘Empower India’ conference in Bangalore. The paper reported, “Though the organisation’s agenda has been well spelt out – democracy & social justice, the state police fear that the organisation had been set up to propagate hardliner ideology”.
March 26, 2007: The Indian Express reports, “The police spoke of Al Umma, the fundamentalist outfit which had become weak after the arrest of more than 100 of its members in the Coimbatore case, which under the DMK regime had been rejuvenated and was trying to enforce edicts on the Muslim community in the districts of south Tamil Nadu” – a clear indication of the Talibanisation of Tamil Nadu.
August 1, 2007: Justice Uthirapathy acquits Abdul Nassar Madhani and seven others (for want of evidence), to the shock of blast victims and their families. Basha, Ansari and 158 others are found guilty. Abdul Nassar Madhani receives a hero’s welcome in Thiruvananthapuram. Both the UDF and LDF vied for credit for his acquittal. The Communists as the ruling dispensation joined the felicitation function; Madhani assured his support to the LDF Government and tried to project a moderate image, claiming he had never been a terrorist and would work for the welfare of Dalits and Muslims. He said he would not sue the Tamil Nadu Government for jailing him for nine long years, but warned he would take up the case again if Tamil Nadu went for an appeal.
August / September 2007: Individual Sentences pronounced; 158 terrorists convicted; 69 on major charges like criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder, murder and promoting hatred between two communities. 88 terrorists were awarded imprisonment ranging from 3 years to 9 years; 43 received life imprisonment; 15 were given 13 years rigorous imprisonment; 10 were given 10 years rigorous imprisonment and 2 were given 7 years rigorous imprisonment. Riaz-ur-Rehman, who turned approver, was acquitted.

August 14, 2007: Three Hindu Munnani activists (brothers of Kumar Pandian) murdered in Tenkasi; three TMMK cadres die in the clash.September 13, 2007: Government of Tamil Nadu reserved seats for Muslims under BC quota, which is unconstitutional but remains unchallenged.October 24, 2007: Sentences for the main convicts: Syed Ahmad Basha, chief of Al Umma, given life sentence. Al Umma general secretary, Mohammed Ansari sentenced to two life terms to run concurrently, propaganda secretary Mohammad Auzir awarded four life terms, member Tajuddin also sentenced to life imprisonment.January 24, 2008: A special police team arrests Ravi Pandian (last brother of slain Hindu Munnani leader Kumar Pandian and three others), and two other Hindu youths, in connection with the RSS office bomb blast in Tenkasi!
February 5, 2008: Welcoming the arrest of Hindu youth, Jawahirullah, TMMK president posted an article praising TN police for the arrests on an Islamic website: twocircles.net
March 7, 2008: An exhibition on Aurangzeb removed by police along with Tamil Nadu Towheeth Jamath functionaries; volunteers including women detained by the police. The Muslims on Thursday issued an ultimatum to the organisers to close down or face consequences after Friday Namaz; they succeeded. The Prince of Arcot visited the venue and confronted the organisers.
June/July 2008: Central intelligence agencies alert Tamil Nadu of a possible terrorist attack on Hindu religious installations. State intelligence bust a terrorist module operating out of Mannadi in Chennai with ‘specific plans’, but LeT trained jihadis Toufeeque and Abu Dahir, leaders of this module, escape. Tamil Nadu police foil an Independence Day 2008 terror bid by arresting Abdul Gaffur, employed in Chennai and acting under instructions from one Ali Abdullah lodged in central prison Puzhal near Chennai.
Erode district police raid 30 private godowns selling gelatine sticks and detonators meant for stone quarrying and blasting wells. Police say the detonators used in the Bangalore blasts could have been sourced from these godowns. Police also raid godowns in Bhavani, Uthukuli, Sathyamangalam and Gobichettypalayam. December 21 2008 : RSS prachark Baskar is attacked in Dindugal, loses both legs.
TN jihadis unleash violence during Ganesh Chaturthi
This is the second part of a three part series of articles. You can read the first part here.
The jihadi outfits became increasingly aggressive on account of the docility of the DMK regime and during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations tried to block placement of Vinayagar Vigrahas, thwart visarjan processions and stone Vigrahas during processions. Attacks on and protests against Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations have increased annually since 2006 and have been reported in pro-DMK Tamil dailies like Dinakaran, Tamizh Murasuand TV channels such as SUN TV and Raj TV. This year however, witnessed widespread violence unleashed by jihadi outfits during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, which drew the attention of the media.
Military training to cadre is a major feature of these outfits. In April 2008, Tamil daily Dinamani reported that MNP was giving ‘military training’ (fully uniformed with arms) to around 1000 cadre (50 from each district) to conduct a ‘Freedom Parade’ on August 15, 2008 (Independence Day), as a show of ‘patriotism’! The outfit has recruited over 25000 cadre in four years and military training is being imparted to 300 cadre from each district. Though MNP claims to focus on ‘human rights’ and ‘social service’, the daily reported that the ‘Q’ branch police is keeping a watch on its activities. When the MNP took out a rally in Madurai last Republic Day, its wall advertisements reportedly carried the flag of the banned outfit JKLF!
Similar incidents were reported from Karnataka and Kerala.
The pro-Islamic Governments of Tamil Nadu and Kerala allowed these outfits to conduct the so-called freedom parade in Kumbakonam and Idukki, which was reported on numerous Muslim websites, including twocircles, freedomparade and dailymuslimnews. BS Yeddyurappa’s (BJP) Government allowed a ‘freedom parade’ in Mangalore in 2008; but refused permission in 2009 for Mysore, a communally sensitive town. Though these organisations claim to be ‘patriotic’ and celebrate the Independence Day, they created unrest and try to incite communal violence in the name of the Babri anniversary. Planned protest demonstrations on December 6, 2008 in major cities and towns led to the detention of over 7000 activists. The Pakistani connection of TMMK and Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamaat (TNTJ) is evident from the fact that their activities are reported in Pakistani media.
Jihad virus spreads in Tamil Nadu
On February 19, 2009, the Tamil daily Dinamalar reported that the Popular Front of India had organised a massive ‘National Political Conference’ in Calicut (February 13-15 2009), which was attended by member organisations, such as Karnataka for Dignity, Manitha Neethi Pasarai, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK), National Development Front, etc. It was attended by thousands of cadre and the conference theme was ‘Power for People’. Incidentally, the TMMK had just then inaugurated its political wing named Manithaneya Makkal Matchi (MMM) meaning ‘Humane People Party’; its leaders also participated in the Calicut conference. Around the same time, Taliban conducted huge rallies in Swat Valley of Pakistan for two days.

In 2011, the AIADMK, which was widely perceived as opposed to terror activities, did an about-turn and aligned with Manitha Neya Makkal Katchi, the political arm of TMMK, known for its active terror cells and behind the murder of Kumara Pandian and his brothers in Tenkasi. The AIADMK alliance with Muslim outfits and communists swept the 2011 Assembly election; now fundamentalist groups behave as if they are the ruling party.
The results are there for all to see:
1 May 16, 2011: MMK, a constituent of ADMK-led alliance, which won two seats in the Assembly election with the support of the AIADMK, boycotted Jayalalithaaâ??s swearing-in ceremony on grounds of the participation of Narendra Modi.
2 October 28, 2011: Pipe bomb planted in BJP leader LK Advaniâ??s Yatra route between Thirumangalam and Srivilliputhur, but the State Government put the investigation in cold storage as some of its supporters are directly or indirectly involved in the case. Recently, the Government released a sketch of the suspects in this case after condemnation from all political parties following the brutal killing of Auditor Ramesh in July 2013, a full 21 months after the incident.
3 July 4, 2012: Pugalendi, a BJP worker, murdered in Nagappattinam.
4 September 14 to 18, 2012: The banned American movie Innocence of Muslims led to an attack on the American embassy; the arterial mount road was shut and vehicles and policemen targetted. Afternoon namaaz was offered on the main road . The embassy siege lasted four days.
5 October 23, 2012: Dr Aravind Reddy, secretary, BJP medical wing, murdered in Vellore.
6 October 26, 2012: BJP National Executive Committee member H Raja attacked in Illayangudi.
7 November 6, 2012: RSS Tiruppur district secretary Anandan attacked in Coimbatore district.
8 December 19 & 22, 2012: Handbills issued by TNTJ in Triplicane area with irreverent comments on Saint Ramalinga Vallalar. Hindu organisations lodged a complaint with Zam Bazaar police; police booked a case against the complainant under non-bailable sections and against the accused Muslim under bailable sections after a station ghero by Muslims.
9 January 2013: Viswaroopam, a Tamil movie produced by noted cine star Kamalhasan banned by the Government after certification by the Censor Board after 23 Islamic outfits complained that the terrorists in the movie bear Islamic names and some Islamic symbols were attributed to the Taliban. The Chief Minister conceded that the police could not provide security to all theatres; petrol bombs and stones were pelted on cinema halls after this announcement; no arrests were made.
10 March 19, 2013: Murugan, BJP worker, murdered in Paramakudi.
11 April 15, 2013: Hindu Munnani member Manjunath attacked in Coonoor.
12 April 17, 2013: Hindu Munnani workers Hariharan, Venkatraj and Jayakumar attacked while pasting posters condemning Manjunath attack in Coonoor.
13 April 21, 2013: Senior BJP leader MR Gandhi attacked in Nagercoil.
14 May 15, 2013: State Government announces memorial for Hyder Ali and Tippu Sultan in Dindugul.
15 May 19, 2013: Government allowed Kashmir separatist leader Yasin Malik to address a meeting in Cuddalore. Malik assured assistance to separatist movements to divide India and cited his story of violence and anti-nationalism. No case was registered under relevant sections of the law and the terrorist was allowed to escape.
16 June 7, 2013: Marriage hall belonging to Suryaprakash of BJP in Ramanathapuram was attacked with petrol bombs.
17 June 25, 2012: A terror training camp was busted in Periyapattanam in Ramanathapuram district. The Police detained Islamic fundamentalists from Tamil Nadu, Bihar, West Bengal, Karnataka and Kerala.
18 July 1, 2013: Hindu Munnani State secretary Vellayappan murdered in Vellore.
19 July 6, 2013: Muslim rally towards the State Secretariat; arrested and let off; no serious cases registered. The rally demanded [i] enhanced reservation from 3.5 per cent to 7.5 per cent, [ii]exemption for Muslims from the Tamil Nadu Marriage Registration Act 2009, and [iii] release of prisoners who have served more than 10 years in jail. Chennai was systematically jammed on the pretext of this rally.
20 July 19, 2013: BJP State general secretary auditor Ramesh murdered in Salem.
21 July 22, 2013: Hindu organisations requested shopkeepers to close shops in Karaikal. Goons from a fancy shop owned by a minority chased Hindu volunteers away. The owner allegedly cut himself and went to the police to lodge a complaint. During the enquiry, the police found the truth and refused to register a case. Immediately, a mob beseiged the Collectors office and demanded action against the police superintendent; the police was asked to register a case under section 307 to pacify the crowd.
Left-secular-Dravidian intelligentsia aiding jihad in Tamil Nadu
This is the last part of a three part series of articles. You can read the first and second parts here.
The then Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s scandalous act of releasing nine jihadis from prison on the birth anniversary of Annadurai and commuting their specified sentences has to be viewed in the backdrop of the fact that 12 most wanted terrorists are prowling free in Tamil Nadu. They include Abu baker Siddique alias Kakka (7 cases), Ayub alias Ashraf Ali (9 cases), Mohammed Ali alias Yunus alias Mansoor (3 cases), Mujib-ur Rahman alias Muji (5 cases), Rasool Mydeen (2 cases), Jaguar Sadiq alias Tailor Raja alias Valarntha Raja (5 cases), Toufeeque (2 cases), Mushtaq Ahmed (Chennai RSS headquarters blast case), and Ibrahim, Ashraf Ali, Noohi NP alias Mankave Rasheed and Kunju Mohammed alias Gani (all Coimbatore blast case).
According to the sources, Kakka, Ayub and Toufeeque were trained in Afghanistan and Pakistan and are experts in making explosives. Kakka, a hardcore Al Umma activist, has been accused in seven cases under the Explosive Substances Act and is absconding since 1997. Ayub alias Ashraf Ali, a core member of the Islamic Defence Force, is believed to be the key operative behind the three train blasts in Tamil Nadu in 1997, in which 10 persons were killed and 72 were injured. Ayub and his associates allegedly planted bombs on the Anna flyover in a bid to blast the US consulate in Chennai. He was accused of sending parcel bombs to filmmaker Mani Ratnam for showing acts of Islamist terrorism in his film Bombay.
Mushtaq Ahmed, who joined hands with dreaded terrorist Imam Ali, one of the founders of Al Umma, is accused of planting powerful

Govt fears Pakistani intelligence officers tricked a BSNL staffer and installed malware on the telco’s networks

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) may have successfully penetrated the database of state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and also installed spyware in the telco’s systems, India’s interior ministry fears, according to documents reviewed by Mint.
Posing as Major Vijay from Indian Army headquarters, Pakistani intelligence officers had called up a BSNL employee in February this year, and followed it up by email communication with the staffer to obtain critical information. The home ministry is of the view that this email communication led to the ISI successfully installing malware on BSNL’s networks, and this may have “contaminated the telco’s computer systems and compromised the integrity and security of the system”.
The home ministry is worried that the spyware may enable Pakistan’s ISI to “identify and access communication links of sensitive organizations”, making the latter vulnerable to cyber attacks.
The documents show that the home ministry also fears that the alleged spyware will enable Pakistan to remotely monitor BSNL’s networks and operations, providing the ISI with the capability of disabling critical networks.
India’s Intelligence Bureau (IB) referred to this incident in a 22 July note. The incident itself took place on 19 February and IB briefed the Prime Minister’s Office, the cabinet secretary, the ministries of home, telecom and IT and external affairs as well as the country’s elite external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), of this development on 25 February.
The mode of operation was as follows. ISI spoofed a landline number (011-23016782) so that the call would appear to originate from Indian Army HQ in Delhi, and called up a BSNL executive on his mobile phone.
Posing as Major Vijay, the ISI officer claimed that the Indian Army was unable to access BSNL’s subscriber base from its website, and also sent the BSNL employee a “test mail” on his Gmail address. The BSNL employee replied to this email by sending three online links, believing that he was helping the Army. The ISI officers then got back claiming they were unable to open the links. Besides, they (ISI) sent some links to the BSNL employee who opened the same on his computer thus enabling the Pakistani agency to allegedly install the malware in the state-owned telco’s systems. The BSNL employee also offered to forward the telephone numbers of technical staff handling its call data records project in Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata.
IB briefed BSNL’s chairman and managing director Rakesh Upadhyay on this incident and asked the telco to identify and remove the alleged spyware from its systems, in addition to asking the company to initiate action against the employee.
The BSNL CMD didn’t respond to calls.
To be sure, this is IB’s version of events. Mint couldn’t independently confirm any of the details, including the claim that the call came from ISI.
BSNL’s networks are of strategic importance to India. The state-owned entity is building an alternative communication network for the armed forces, the completion of which will result in the Army, Air Force and Navy vacating additional spectrum for commercial mobile telephony, and routing their communications through this wireline system.
BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) are also operating and maintaining the secure network that they are currently building to link all government departments in the country. This network, which will connect about 5,000 government departments when completed, is aimed at ensuring confidentiality of all official communication. Besides, BSNL’s networks also link the servers of private mobile phone companies to the upcoming Centralized Monitoring System (CMS), a surveillance platform that will enable the government to monitor all forms of communication from emails to online activity to phone calls, text messages and faxes among others.
Experts see the breach as yet another incident of social engineering posing a threat to corporations and sensitive data.
“Social engineering techniques allow a lot of access if an employee is not made aware and trained to screen calls and handle sensitive data properly. Hackers have been able to get blueprints and sensitive data successfully through social engineering, which is made easier nowadays with people not caring about their privacy and personal data available in the public domain in social media sites,” said Shree Parthasarathy, executive director, enterprise risk services, Deloitte.
“Another challenge is the classification of data. If there was a standard process then I’m sure the breach would have been caught. It’s relatively easy to solve but poses a major threat at the present time.”
