Take on Communal Violence Bill: Jaya to CMs

CHENNAI:  Continuing her campaign against the proposed Prevention of Communal Violence (Access to Justice and Reparation) Bill, 2011, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday wrote to all non-Congress Chief Ministers as well as non-Congress, non-DMK MPs requesting them to raise their voice against it. “I appeal to all right-thinking political parties and MPs to look at the real intentions of the UPA government at the Centre in piloting this fascist Bill and unite in throwing this out at the introduction stage itself,” Jayalalithaa said in a statement here. Reiterating her view on the Bill, Jayalalithaa said, under the garb of preventing communal and targeted violence, the UPA government was attempting to totally bypass the State governments and concentrate all powers in the Central government rendering the States powerless and totally at the mercy of the Centre. She said the Bill was also an attempt to keep the State governments under the constant threat of dismissal.  She recalled her statement issued on July 29 pointing out the real motives behind the “apparently altruistic bill”.

CHENNAI: Drumming up support to her opposition to the draft Communal Violence Bill, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has written to her non-Congress counterparts and MPs urging them to unite in "throwing out the "fascist bill" at the introduction stage itself.

The Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill 2011 proposed provisions that were a "blatant attempt," by the UPA to totally bypass state governments and keep them under "constant threat of dismissal", she said in a statement here on Monday.

"I have also written to all the non-Congress chief ministers requesting them to oppose this Bill. A copy of my statement (issued last week) has also been sent to all the non-Congress, non-DMK MPs for raising their voice against this fascist Bill," she said.

"I appeal to all right-thinking political parties and the MPs to look at the real intentions of the UPA government at the Centre in piloting this bill and unite in throwing it out at the introduction stage itself."

She recalled her statement issued on July 29 pointing out the real motives behind the "apparently altruistic bill".

In a hard-hitting statement last week, the AIADMK chief had slammed the bill as "fascist" and said it would give sweeping powers to the Centre and keep the states under constant threat of dismissal.

Under the garb of preventing communal and targeted violence, the bill was yet another "blatant attempt" to totally bypass the state governments, she had said.
