Calf head thrown into RSS office triggers tension in Madurai

TNN, Mar 2, 2011

MADURAI: The head of a slaughtered calf was found in the RSS office premises in Madurai on Tuesday, leading to tension in the region.

The RSS office in Madurai is situated in SS Colony. On Tuesday morning some RSS cadres noticed a bag being flung into the office premises and alerted the police. When the police rushed there, they found that the bag contained the skinned head of a calf and tried to remove it. However, the RSS district secretary Asokan, president Sethuraman and members of other organizations rushed to the spot and demanded action against those responsible for the act.

South IG P Balasubramaniam arrived at the spot and the RSS members handed over a petition to him. They later submitted a petition to the Madurai district collector C Kamaraj seeking action. Both the IG and the Collector requested them to remain calm and assured them immediate action, state propaganda general secretary of the BJP Sasi Raman said. Antisocial elements had been indulging in such acts for the past five years and targeting their party office, he said. There was tension in the neighbourhood as RSS members attempted to take out a procession with the calf's head but police took it away before they could do so. The SS colony police have registered a case.
