THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said that Anna Hazare’s hunger strike had a Kerala connection and said that its repercussions would be felt during the Assembly elections in the State.
Senior advocate Santhi Bhushan is Achuthanandan’s bridge to Anna Hazare. ”Santhi Bhushan’s appointment as the co-chairman of the committee formed to restructure the Lokpal Bill is highly relevant.
It was Santhi Bhushan who offered legal advice while moving for a reinvestigation into the icecream parlour case,” Achuthanandan said in a statement here on Saturday.
He described Bhushan as ”the country’s voice of justice against corruption”. It was Shanthi Bhushan who once proved Indira Gandhi’s election malpractice in court and secured a verdict against her and also exposed corruption in the higher echelons of the judiciary, Achuthanandan said.
”And when I approached Shanthi Bhushan to take up the Idamalayar case, he said he will work for free to bring this corruption to light,” Achuthanandan said and added: ”And this man who stands on such a high pedestal, who fought to put a senior UDF leader in jail and gave a new direction to the ice cream scandal, is now sought to be portrayed by Kunhalikutty and his protectors like Oommen Chandy as merely Achuthanandan’s lawyer,” the Chief Minister said. Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi might have by now realised who the man was, he added.
”This Assembly election is a historic fight against corruption,” Achuthanandan said.
However, he said that Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi who visited the state when support to Anna Hazare had reached fever pitch, were silent about corruption.
The Chief Minister said that Sonia Gandhi’s soninlaw Robert Vadra was a big real estate businessman, ”a nouveau riche who is making crores by buying and selling lands in North India and Tamil Nadu.”
Achuthanandan alleged that some links of Robert Vadra’s real estate chain had found their way into the UDF’s candidate list.http://expressbuzz.com/edition/print.aspx?artid=264236
